College student missed his graduation. Then he was found dead, Tennessee reports say

The body of a college student who vanished days before his graduation was found, Tennessee police and loved ones say.

Memphis police said Barshay Wilson’s body was found with a gunshot wound near Water Plant Park off of Highway 70 the afternoon of Monday, Dec. 12. The body was found near a burning car, an officer told McClatchy News.

On Wednesday morning, the body was identified as belonging to Wilson, according to a tweet from the department.

The 25-year-old vanished from a friend’s house in Memphis on Friday, Dec. 9, the police department said in a Dec. 12 tweet. Wilson’s body was found about 30 miles northeast of the house.

Wilson was a nursing student at the University of Memphis, according to Memphis Commercial Appeal’s reporting. He was set to graduate on Sunday, but he never showed up for commencement.

Loved ones shared memories and tributes for Wilson on social media following the discovery of his body.

“You have accomplished so much since we met and were meant to do so much more,” one friend posted on Facebook. “The world lost an irreplaceable man.”

“He was such a gentle and kind soul,” another friend wrote. “He deserved better. He deserved to grow old.”

“BarShay was a beautiful kid,” a third person posted.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
