TikTok food waste videos rack up views. This man is fighting back, one meal at a time
A TikTok star is combating a viral trend on social media that is creating food waste — by giving back.
Milad Mirg has been in the social media spotlight for several trends, including his series filming at his job at a Subway in New Jersey, which he says has brought in millions of viewers and dollars to the company, he told Insider.
His latest videos on TikTok still focus on food, but in a different way. While other creators have gone viral for humorous videos that waste pounds and gallons of food, Mirg is fighting back by giving back to communities in need.
“Together we can make a better world,” his Instagram bio reads.
Millions of his viewers agree.
“Great work..we need to help each other, that’s the humanity” one viewer said.
“This younger generation is going to be all right. Good job.” another person commented.
Most of Mirg’s videos start a same: a clip of another TikTok creator wasting copious amounts of food for likes and views, then it switches to Mirg, often making a similar recipe, but to give out for hundreds of people.
Mirg’s donation videos include hundreds of pancakes, hot dogs, sandwiches and other simple meals. He’s also collaborated with social media influencers, including Mr. Beast, to produce meals and pass them out.
Several viewers have questioned why Mirg records his “good deeds” for content, but others don’t seem to mind.
“Nothing wrong with bringing back humanity even if it is a ‘trend,’” one person commented. “Thank you guys for this. I’m sure it still meant a lot to others.”
