Two drown in Lake of the Ozarks after one tries saving the other, Missouri cops say
Two men from India drowned in the Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday, Nov. 26, Missouri officials say.
They were swimming near the half mile marker in the main channel around 2:30 p.m. when one of the men, 24-year-old Uthej Kunta, began to struggle, went underwater and didn’t come back up, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.
Shiva Kelligari, 25, jumped into the water to try and rescue Kunta, but neither man made it out of the lake, the report said.
Crews found Kunta’s body later that afternoon and he was pronounced dead at 4:04 p.m., according to the report. Kelligari’s body was located by a dive team the following morning around 9 a.m., Nov. 27.
Neither man was wearing a life vest, according to the report.
