Woman smashed windows with pickaxe, while a baby slept inside, CA video shows

A woman was arrested after using a pickaxe to shatter multiple windows of a neighbor’s house in California, according to home security video obtained by local media outlets.

On Oct. 24 the homeowner got a phone notification from his security system that something was happening at his house in Pasadena, California, according to CBS Los Angeles.

A 65-year-old woman approached the house with a pickaxe and started smashing the windows of the front of the property, according to KTLA. The homeowner’s mother-in-law was babysitting their six-week-old baby at the time.

The newborn was asleep by a window, according to KABC. The baby’s grandmother quickly grabbed her as soon as she saw the windows being destroyed.

“If my mother-in-law didn’t act as fast as she did, my daughter wouldn’t be here,” the homeowner said, according to KTLA.

The woman returned several times over the next few minutes and continued to break more windows, according to KTLA.

A few hours later, the woman was arrested by Pasadena police and booked on vandalism charges, according to CBS Los Angeles. Police believe she was experiencing a mental health crisis.

The eight broken windows caused an estimated $20,000 in damages, according to KABC.

“We bought this house from scratch. We put all our savings into this house because it’s a nice neighborhood. We grew up here, and this is how we get welcomed to the neighborhood,” said the homeowner according to KABC.

The homeowner doesn’t know the woman but said she lives across the street, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Pasadena is a city northeast of Los Angeles.
