Moose crashes youth soccer game — and gets herded away by man on e-bike, video shows
Players and parents scrambled out of the way as a moose trotted onto the field during a youth soccer game in Wyoming over the weekend.
But a guy on an e-bike saved the day by shepherding the moose off the pitch near Jackson.
Barbara Allen recorded the chance encounter and posted the video Oct. 15 to her Facebook page with the caption “FIFA moose.”
She is a real estate agent and former Teton County commissioner, the Jackson Hole Daily reported. Her two children both played Saturday, the outlet said.
“Soccer is momentarily paused,” she narrated as she recorded.
Her video shows panicked parents jumping in front of screaming kids as the moose, maybe just as panicked, darts around the grass.
Then the guy riding an electric bike rolls into the frame and herds the moose off the field.
“Who’s the idiot on the bicycle?” someone asked in a comment, adding that the man on the e-bike was brave. “I’ve seen a moose head butt a car.”
Others joked about whether the moose was playing defense or offense.
“I think your first reaction is what most people in Jackson think when they see a beautiful bull moose: ‘Wow, that’s a beautiful bull moose with a big paddle’,” Allen told the Jackson Hole Daily. And then she thought: “Wow, that’s a beautiful bull moose with a big paddle running through a group of children.”
Trent Hultman, executive director of Jackson Hole Youth Soccer, told the outlet no one was injured.
Last week, another moose sighting in nearby Montana garnered some excitement online when Rocky Mountain College posted a video of a moose trotting just outside another soccer pitch.
“Remember, this is a wild animal. If you see it, keep your distance and ideally go indoors,” the college said in the tweet. “Please, resist the temptation to approach it in the name of getting a better picture. Moose can be extremely dangerous, especially when agitated.”
