ESPN football analyst Troy Aikman apologized for a sexist comment he made during Monday Night Football on Oct. 10.

Following a head-scratching roughing the passer call during the second quarter of the game between the Raiders and the Chiefs, Aikman voiced his displeasure with the officials with a comment some deemed misogynistic.

“My hope is the competition committee looks at this in the next set of meetings, and, you know, we take the dresses off,” the Hall of Fame quarterback and Cowboy legend said after Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones sacked Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

Aikman addressed the remark on Thursday, Oct. 13 on 96.7 The Ticket.

“My comments were dumb, just shouldn’t have made them,” Aikman said during the radio appearance according to mulitple news outlets including the Dallas Morning News and the New York Post. “Just dumb remarks on my part.”

The three-time Super Bowl champion’s comment took Twitter by storm, with the backlash quick and heavy.

Others defended him.

Aikman is in the first year of a five-year, $90 million contract with ESPN.
