A woman’s body was found in a clothing collection box in California, authorities said.

A passerby reported the body around 9:58 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, in Newhall, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told McClatchy News.

Authorities found a woman’s body in the bin, which was located near Orchard Village Road and Lyons Avenue, the sheriff’s department said.

The 61-year-old woman’s upper body was trapped in the donation box, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“She had crawled up there,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Dan Wolanski told the news outlet. “I don’t know if she lost an item in the bin or not, but she was reaching in there when she got trapped.”

The woman’s identity is not known, and the investigation is ongoing.

Newhall is a southern community in Santa Clarita, which is about 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

A 54-year-old man was found dead in a donation bin in Enterprise, Alabama, in September, McClatchy News previously reported.

It appeared Bryan Thomas Pound used the bin to sleep in at night before he died, local authorities said.
