A man trying to swim back to his boat on Lake Mohave in Nevada began to struggle and drowned, rangers reported.

The incident took place about 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Cottonwood Cove on the lake, according to a Lake Mead National Recreation Area news release.

The 44-year-old swimmer drowned despite the efforts of other boaters, who threw life jackets to him, rangers said.

The man, who was not wearing a life jacket, could not retrieve the ones thrown to him.

Park rangers and dive teams searched for the missing man until heavy winds suspended the effort Friday night. They found his body at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.

Lake Mohave is south of Lake Mead and Las Vegas.
