A teen died after the drivers of two cars “purposely targeted” him, striking him three times at a party in California, police said.

Matthew Lobos, 17, was a senior at Santee High School, ABC 7 News reported.

“He was a good kid,” Lobos’ cousin, Irvin Espinosa Hernandez, told the outlet. “He had no involvement with nothing. The kid was making his dream come true. Everything he was doing, he was not a young ordinary kid.”

Lobos was at a party in South Los Angeles in the early morning hours on Sunday, Aug. 21, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. The teen got into a “physical dispute” with other party attendees.

“After the fight, the suspects entered a black, compact SUV and drove in Matthew’s direction,” police said.

One occupant left the SUV and got into another person’s white Acura sedan, police said.

After driving away, the two drivers made a U-turn and “drove directly at Matthew, with both vehicles striking him,” police said.

A friend was trying to drag Lobos out of the street when the drivers made another U-turn and drove back in his direction, police said. The Acura hit the teen for a third time and collided into a light pole.

“The suspect from the Acura exited the vehicle and entered the SUV, which fled the scene,” police said.

Lobos was pronounced dead on scene, police said.

The teen died five months before his 18th birthday, according to a GoFundMe set up for the family.

He wanted to be a realtor when he turned 18,” Lobos’ aunt, Laura Valenzuela, told CBS News. “He wanted to take his realtor license. I think he just wanted to make more of himself, first and foremost.”

Police are still looking for the suspects and ask anyone with information to call 213-996-4136.
