A 22-year-old man was playing basketball with friends when he was gunned down by a shooter who remains at large, according to police and Pennsylvania news outlets.

Philadelphia police officers were called to the basketball courts at Pleasant Playground at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, according to an incident report. There, they found the man shot in his head and buttocks.

Police say he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

“(He) is fighting for his life,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told WPVI.

Authorities say a masked shooter fired at least 16 shots at the north Philadelphia park’s basketball court, according to WCAU. About 10 people were on the court at the time of the shooting.

Three bullets from a different gun also hit a car that belongs to the victim’s friend, WPVI reported. Police believe two shooters were working together.

One of the other men playing basketball returned gunfire, WTXF reported, but authorities do not think a suspect was hit.

No arrests have been made as of Aug. 19, police told McClatchy News. The investigation is going.
