A hiker stumbled upon a body in an Arizona slot canyon, rescuers said.

A man was reported missing after walking away from a home in Colorado City, the Hildale and Colorado City Search and Rescue team said. On Aug. 1, officials asked for the public’s help in finding the man.

Officials said the area is “mostly sand covered with cedar trees,” but it can be very rocky in some parts.

The search was set to begin Wednesday, Aug. 3, but the man’s body was found the day before.

A hiker discovered the body in a small slot canyon, the search and rescue team said. The missing man’s dog was also found nearby.

“His dog was rescued and is with family,” rescuers said in a news release. “At this time the name of the male will not be released until extended family is notified.”

Colorado City is near the Arizona-Utah border, about 40 miles south of Utah’s Zion National Park.
