A man celebrating his 34th birthday in Oakland was killed in a triple shooting, California media outlets reported.

Police said the shooting took place at around 1:30 a.m. on July 13, ABC 7 reported. They said the man was walking to his car with two women after celebrating his birthday at a club when someone shot at them, the East Bay Times reported.

The two women were both injured, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, KTVU reported. The man was from Oakland, and the women were from San Leandro and Tracy, the outlet reported.

The women, ages 27 and 24, were taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance and were in stable condition, the East Bay Times reported.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf told KTVU that the incidentseemed connected to a private event.

“It really appeared to be a very unfortunate tragedy and interpersonal conflict that resulted in a senseless death,” Schaaf told the outlet.

Gunfire from the incident also hit at least one building and several cars in the area, The East Bay Times reported.
