Teen girls found dead after car hits tree, launches into pond, Louisiana cops say
Two teenagers were killed after they veered off a Louisiana highway and landed in a pond, authorities said.
Around 12 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 16-year-old Caroline Smith was driving with 16-year-old Chloe Hamilton, both of Prairieville, along Louisiana Highway 427 near Bayou Manchac in Ascension Parish, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police.
For unknown reasons, Smith lost control of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala around a turn and veered off the roadway, according to the release.
The car hit a tree and “vaulted” into a private pond nearby after the impact, officials said.
The car sank into the pond, and the two teens were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
The crash is under investigation, according to the release.
Ascension Parish is about 25 miles southeast of Baton Rouge.
