Disruptive passenger causes international flight bound for LAX to divert to Honolulu

A flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles was diverted to Honolulu because of a disruptive passenger, media outlets in Hawaii reported.

Details were limited about the actions of the “unruly passenger” on the United Airlines flight that landed at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Tuesday, June 14.

Sheriff deputies responded to incident but did not make an arrest because it was an international flight, which dictates that U.S. Customs and Border Protection has jurisdiction, the Hawaii Department of Public Safety said, according to KITV.

United said that passengers were able to get off the plane normally, and that it plans to offer customers hotels and new booking options for their final destinations, Hawaii News Now reported.

The disturbance reportedly occurred when the flight was midway over the Pacific Ocean, according to Live And Let’s Fly.

Officials said no injuries were reported, Hawaii News Now reported.

There have been 1,516 reports of unruly passengers on planes so far in 2022, according to Federal Aviation Administration data.
