Woman stopping to help another driver is killed in Florida crash, troopers say
A 46-year-old stopped to help another driver before she died in a Florida car crash, officials said.
A man was driving when a car reportedly crashed into his pickup truck, causing it to spin and face another direction on a Jacksonville road, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
After the possible hit-and-run crash, officials said a good Samaritan parked along the road and checked on the driver. The two were standing in an inside lane when a third car approached them early Monday, June 13, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
That car’s driver reportedly didn’t see the pickup in the roadway and slammed into it, sending the car turning in another direction at about 12:45 a.m. The pickup also started spinning and hit the two drivers who had gotten out of their vehicles, officials said.
The 46-year-old died at the scene. She was identified as a Jacksonville resident.
The pickup driver — who lives in Texas — was critically injured, officials said. The driver of the third car was also taken to a hospital and was seriously hurt.
Officials said the initial crash happened as the pickup was on the Southside Connector — also called State Road 113. The vehicle that initially hit the pickup truck might have been trying to enter the northbound lanes from Tredinick Parkway, troopers said.
State troopers didn’t share the deceased driver’s identity or list possible charges in their release.
