Fiery crash kills mom and injures 3 kids, California cops say. Dad is accused of DUI
A man was arrested on suspicion of a DUI after a fiery crash on a California freeway killed his wife and injured his three young children, police told multiple news outlets.
The 31-year-old man was driving his family from a graduation party around 11:40 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, in Porter Ranch when he lost control of a Lexus sedan and crashed into an embankment off the California 118, KTTV reported.
The car burst into flames with his family inside of it, the outlet reported.
Los Angeles Police Department officers watched the crash and helped the 31-year-old man free his children from the car, KABC-TV reported.
But the officers could not pull the man’s 31-year-old wife from the burning car in time, the outlet reported.
She died at the crash scene, KNBC reported. The man and their three children were taken to a hospital before he was arrested on a DUI charge and the kids were given to family members, KABC-TV reported.
Three other cars crashed on the freeway because of the traffic jam from the collision, KTLA reported.
Porter Ranch is a neighborhood in Los Angeles.
