Search for 63-year-old suspended after boat washes ashore in Virginia, officials say

Crews are searching for a 63-year-old man after a boat was found washed ashore in Virginia, officials said.
Around 6:40 p.m. Eastern time Saturday, June 4, a beachgoer found the boat “washed up on shore” between Grandview Beach and Factory Point in Hampton, according to a news release from Virginia Marine Police.
The 20-foot Boston Whaler showed “signs of recent occupancy,” the U.S. Coast Guard said in a news release.
“The Virginia Marine Police believe at least one person is missing and are currently conducting an investigation to determine the last (known) whereabouts of the vessel’s operator,” the agency said.
Multiple agencies are searching for the 63-year-old in the Chesapeake Bay between Hampton and Annapolis, Maryland, the Coast Guard said on the evening of June 4. The agency said “cell phone data indicated the vessel departed Annapolis, Maryland yesterday evening and transited south.”
Hampton is in coastal Virginia, about 30 miles from Virginia Beach.
