This home for sale in Missouri was once a Gothic church — 115 years ago. Take a look

Homes on the real estate market that have been converted from houses of worship aren’t uncommon.

But while some of those houses don’t carry a trace of a church from a former life, this $1.5 million six-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom residence for sale in St. Louis, Missouri, is exactly what one would picture when hearing the words “converted church.”

That’s in large part thanks to its stained-glass windows, which remain in the home thanks to the congregation that sold the church years ago, Realtor.com said.

One thing prior to the sale was that the stained-glass windows could not be removed. The congregation felt strongly that they didn’t want them thrown away or sold or something like that,” listing agent Ted Wight told Realtor.com. “The windows are beautiful, so I don’t think anybody would want to remove them.”

According to the listing on Realtor, the 7,866-square foot home was a former Gothic church that was built over a century ago — 115 years ago, to be exact. Currently, the home is being used as a bed and breakfast “with five rental rooms, each with en-suite luxury bathrooms.”

The owners put a lot of work into beautifying the home, Realtor reported.

“They spent a significant amount of money to convert it. Everything is very high-quality in it,” Wight said to Realtor. “The stained-glass windows are really dynamic, and I thought the level of quality that they refinished it in was really good. It is really turnkey. You’re not getting something that needs work.”
