Hiker found dead on Appalachian Trail in Georgia. Officials need help identifying him
Authorities in Georgia are asking for the public’s help to identify a man believed to be a hiker who was found dead on Springer Mountain.
The man was found dead on Jan. 21 off the Benton MacKaye Trail, which is part of the Appalachian Trail, according to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities said the man was wearing a gray T-shirt, a gray fleece long-sleeve shirt, tan Wrangler cargo pants size 30x32, gray wool boot socks and Keen hiking boots size 10.5.
The hiker was found with a black Thermal FR quarter-zip pullover, a dark gray Champion quarter-zip fleece pullover, a black Uline skull cap with a rechargeable light and a small black folding shovel.
Officials shared a forensic rendering of what the man looks like.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact the GBI. They did not say how the man died.
