Body of missing man found by campers on remote Tennessee island, deputies say
Campers found a man’s body over the weekend on a remote Tennessee island, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
A cause of death for Bobby Campbell, 53, has not been determined, officials said.
The discovery was made Sunday, March 27, on Poole Knobs Island in Percy Priest Lake, Detective Christian Wrather said in a news release. The 42-mile-long reservoir is about 25 miles southeast of Nashville.
“No signs of foul play were observed,” Wrather said.
Campers spotted the body near Poole Knobs Recreation Area Boat Ramp and waited to guide first responders to the spot, officials said.
Campbell lived at a home on Weakley Lane on the mainland and had been reported missing March 20 by his family, officials said. Investigators didn’t offer details on how he may have gotten to the island, which is not accessible by road.
“Since receiving the report of Campbell being missing, deputies walked in the area near his home looking for him every day,” officials said. “Deputies with their K9s searched along with drones.”
Campbell was known to have “a medical condition that may impair his ability to return“ home safely, officials said.
