Fishermen find body in Texas lake near where man went missing, sheriff says

Fishermen found a body while near Little Rocky Creek Lodge on Lake Whitney, the same area where a man was reported missing in January, officials say.

Bosque County investigators, alongside Texas Parks and Wildlife, responded to the call and pulled the body from the lake on Thursday, March 10, according to a post from the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office.

The body was taken to a medical examiner for a forensic investigation and for a positive identification.

Officials believe the body may be of John Walter Mauhar, the man who was reported missing on Jan. 30.

“The family of Mauhar has been contacted and advised of this recovery and have been made aware that positive identification is pending,” the sheriff’s office said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”

Mauhar had checked into Little Rocky Creek Lodge in Laguna Park on Jan. 28 and was last heard from via a text message he sent that evening, officials said at the time.

“Friends became concerned after failed attempts to reach John on his phone and contacted our office,” a Jan. 30 news release said. “Investigating officers found John’s room to be unoccupied, however John’s car, his cellphone and personal belongings were all found at the room.”

Authorities said Mauhar had known medical conditions and sometimes became disoriented due to treatments and medications he took.

The lodge where he was reported missing is about 90 miles south of Dallas.
