Dog chases javelina up a cliff in Arizona — and gets stuck for days
A family dog who got stuck on an Arizona cliff was rescued and brought home after being missing for two days.
Goldie, a Labrador mix, likely became stuck on the cliff near Sedona after chasing javelina out of the family’s yard on Feb. 6. Her family told 12 News that she might have chased one of the pig-like desert mammals up the cliff and then became too scared to come down.
She was spotted after being lost for two days and Yavapai Humane Trappers Animal Search and Rescue was notified, according to 12 News.
“People had seen [Goldie] on the cliff and called, and we were just on it from there,” Katrina Karr, the organization’s founder, president and lead trapper, told Fox 10.
Karr wrote about Goldie on Facebook, and the post quickly went viral, she told the outlet.
“We were getting hundreds and hundreds of messages from people who wanted to help, it was amazing,” Karr told Fox 10.
Eventually, the news about Goldie reached her family, which then got in touch with Karr to figure out how to bring their beloved dog home, 12 News reported.
About 15 people from different organizations reached out offering help, but one of Goldie’s owners, Robert, decided to go up the cliff to bring Goldie down, Fox 10 reported.
On Feb. 8, Karr posted an update to Facebook with a video of Robert carefully approaching the narrow ledge Goldie was stuck on.
“She is wagging her tail but there is an area she is scared to cross,” Karr wrote.
In another post, Karr shared a photo of Robert and Goldie sitting together on the cliff.
“Owner is with dog but Goldie is scared,” she wrote. “Tactical team is now showing up.”
Eventually, with help from the Independent Trappers of Sedona, Robert and Goldie made it safely off the cliff, according to two follow-up posts by Karr on Feb. 8.
In a final video shared by Karr, Goldie can be seen walking down the cliff after Robert, wagging her tail and cuddling with him.
“Robert got her through the difficult part and after that she followed him down,” Karr wrote. “Here is another life saving rescue that took a village and we are so blessed.”
