Missing man’s dog, car found abandoned after he vanished while camping, Hawaii cops say

A man vanished on a camping trip, and only his dog and car have been found, Hawaii officials said.

Joseph Wyatt, 37, of Maui planned to take a short camping trip with his dog Thursday, Feb. 3, the Maui Police Department said.

Wyatt’s girlfriend reported him missing after he didn’t return for two days, police said. Police began searching for Wyatt.

Officials found Wyatt’s car unattended at Nakalele Point, a dangerous blowhole with crashing waves in Maui.

A day later, Wyatt’s dog was found wandering the area, police said. The dog was in good health.

Friends told KHON 2 that Wyatt was always with his dog Mana, They found it concerning that the dog was found alone.

“The fact that Mana was found running around not with Joey, that’s the part that scared me, because Mana would not have left him,” Scott Wilson, Wyatt’s best friend, told KHON 2.

Family members are planning to search for Wyatt in Maui because police will suspend the search after 72 hours, Hawaii News Now reported.

Police said Wyatt is a 5’8”, 165-pound man with blonde hair and blue eyes.

“He was last seen wearing beige shorts, a blue shirt, and brown Olukai slippers,” police said. “If you know the whereabouts of Mr. Wyatt, please contact the Maui Police Department.”
