Skier crashes into 13-year-old and leaves him injured at the scene, Colorado cops say

A 13-year-old was knocked to the ground after a man skiing out of control barreled into him, Colorado police said.

The teen was injured and left at the scene after the crash on Sunday, Jan. 30, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said.

The young skier told police he was making “S turns” at Beaver Creek Ski Resort when he saw a man rushing toward him.

“The victim remembers an older gentleman ‘straight-lining’ it towards him at a high rate of speed who appeared to be skiing out of control, and just ‘took him out,’” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The man hit the teen and left him there, deputies said. He was likely in his 60s and “wearing black pants, an older-looking black or gray jacket, with an older-looking black helmet.”

The teen was skiing with a family friend at the time of the crash. However, the friend said they did not see the collision.

“The adult friend and their child did not witness the collision but remembered a male suspect (as described) when he stopped briefly to say he was sorry to the victim after picking himself back up,” deputies said.

The skier had several injuries from the crash, including a broken clavicle.

Officials are searching for a possible suspect. It’s against Colorado law to leave the scene of a crash while skiing.

“No skier involved in a collision with another skier or person in which an injury results shall leave the vicinity of the collision before giving his or her name and current address to an employee of the ski area operator or a member of the ski patrol,” the law says.
