Man scratches lottery ticket in SC drive-thru and gets life-changing win. ‘I retired’
A man in Anderson, South Carolina pulled into a long line at a fast food restaurant drive-thru and decided to pass the time by scratching off a ticket he had bought earlier.
To his surprise, lottery officials say, he drove off with his retirement in his pocket.
“I had to double and triple check it,” he told the SC Education Lottery in a news release. “Then I had to make sure my heart was still working.”
The winner, who was not identified in the release, had bought his Money Match ticket at the Expressway 25 at 1910 E. Greenville St. in Anderson just prior to stopping by the drive-thru to grab something to eat. Once he checked the numbers, he told officials he was shocked.
He had won $300,000 in the Money Match game, a win overcoming 1 in 900,000 odds.
He told officials that he left the long drive-thru line without ordering anything once he found out and planned what he would do with the prize.
“I retired,” he told officials.
According to lottery officials, there are two more top prizes of $300,000 remaining in the ($10) $300,000 Money Match game.
Expressway #25 received a commission of $3,000 for selling the winning ticket, according to the SC Education Lottery.
