Labyrinth-like Airbnb in Spain has a ‘Squid Game’ vibe – but without all the blood
When the characters of Netfilx’s international hit “Squid Game” first rest eyes on the prismatic steps woven into a massive child’s playhouse, which serves as one of the main settings of the drama series, their expressions are full of wonder.
That is, until they play the first game.
No worries — this particular place that carries the same colorful vibes as the popular show’s playhouse setting is designed for your enjoyment, not demise.
And no, pink and green track suits are not the required dress.
Media outlets like the New York Post and Metro have been drawing comparisons of the “Squid Game” props to to this idyllic vacation rental by the Balearic Sea in Manzanera, Calpe, available to rent on Airbnb for $271 per night.
It’s called La Murall Roja which means the Red Wall in English, and it’s an apartment complex composed of 50 homes, scenic patios and multiple staircases, The New York Post reports.
The inspiration for the setting in the now famous show is not this particular property, but rather a homage to M.C. Escher’s work Relativity, “Squid Game” director Hwang Dong-hyuk said in an interview.
According to Metro.co.uk, La Murall Roja “was designed by renowned Spanish artist Ricardo Bofil, with the architect using the Greek Cross as inspiration for the angular, zigzag building shape.
Many of the apartments are owned by residents, and the development has two commercial stores, a sauna, and a restaurant all on the first level, as well as solariums and a swimming pool on the roof terrace.”
Guests who have stayed at the vacation rental had nothing but wonderful things to say about their stays. The flat available to rent currently has 4.16 stars out of 5.
“Lovely flat in a beautiful place,” one guest wrote. “The architecture of the Muralla Roja is just crazy! Highly recommended.”
“Thank you for the colourful stay!” another said.
“Francisco is very friendly to guide us to get the key on Sunday,” another guest said. “The room is so fabulous that make me want to stay there for a week!!! View was amazing, great place to take photos and enjoy vacation! Also just 10 minutes walk can reach town and have a lot of food to enjoy.”
