‘Cave house’ lists in Tennessee for $238,000. ‘You have never seen anything like this’
A wildly unique home that has hit the real estate market in Jackson, Tennessee, is creating a little bit of a stir, mainly because of its style ... and small price tag.
This three bedroom, two bathroom is 2,078 square feet of distinctiveness on both the inside and outside, with the listing saying “you have never seen anything like this.” The house itself is built into the side of hill and is listed for only $237,999.
“I wish I had a good reason, besides the owners are brothers, and that’s just the number that they came up with. I think their reasoning was this is a unique house, and it deserves a unique listing price,” the listing agent, Blake Ward, said to Realtor.com.
Built of concrete and steel, the “subterranean cave house” is in a prime location, being only minutes away from Jackson, an hour from Memphis and two hours from Nashville, the listing says.
“It is sturdy, and it could serve as a storm shelter. Heck, it could probably serve as a bomb shelter,” Ward said to Realtor.com. “It’s a unique place, and it’s got a private setting. It’ll be a really unique home for somebody. It’s just going to take the right person.”
Ward also explains that upkeep for the house is minimal, since, well, the roof is a lawn. There is also a pool house but no pool since it was filled in a couple of owners ago.
Houses like these, which are primarily cost-efficient since they’re built into the earth, aren’t too rare. The popular Facebook page Zillow Gone Wild highlighted another “underground” house on the market, but this one is listed for $640,000 in Princeton, Massachusetts, McClatchy News reported.
