Elk with antlers tangled in hammock nearly drowns in Idaho river, deputies say

A bull elk whose antlers somehow became entangled in a rope hammock nearly drowned in the Big Wood River near Ketchum, Idaho, sheriff’s officials say.

Blaine County sheriff’s deputies and state wildlife officers tranquilized the elk and freed it from the hammock, a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office says.

Photos with the post show the elk with a heavy backyard hammock wrapped around his antlers, dragging his head down, in the river.

After rescuing the elk and removing the hammock, deputies and wildlife officers released him back into the wild, the post says.

“Moving forward, maybe people could bring in their hammock when not in use?” suggested one reader in the comments on the post.
