Kim Kardashian says Kanye West should be treated with ‘compassion’ after his insults

Kim Kardashian West addressed her husband Kanye West’s mental health in an Instagram post Wednesday morning, asking for the public’s “compassion and empathy.”

The post came a day after the rapper insulted Kardashian’s mother and said Kardashian was trying to lock him up.

She wrote in her Instagram story she has not spoken about her husband’s bipolar disorder before but said she felt she “should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health.”

West, who announced earlier this month he is running for president, tweeted Monday about his family’s concern for him. He said in a since-deleted post, “Kim tried to bring a doctor to lock me up,” NPR reported. He also said he has been trying to get divorced from Kardashian, People reported.

West referred to Kris Jenner, Kardashian’s mother, as “Kris Jong-Un” and said she is not allowed to visit his children in since-deleted posts Tuesday, according to Newsweek.

People reported Tuesday that Kardashian has been trying to get her husband help “for weeks.”

Kardashian said the death of his mother, the pressures of being an artist and Black man, has heightened his bi-polar disorder.

“Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions,” she wrote. “Living with bi-polar disorder does not diminish or invalidate his dreams and his creative ideas, no matter how big or unobtainable they may feel to some. That is part of his genius and as we have all witnessed, many of his big dreams have come true.”

Kardashian also wrote about the difficulties of having a loved one with a mental illness.

“Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behavior know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor,” she wrote. “People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgmental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.”

West asked his Twitter followers Tuesday night if he should continue to run for president, Newsweek reported. The tweet was deleted.

West kicked off his campaign with a rally Sunday in North Charleston, South Carolina. He spoke to the crowd wearing a protective vest, claimed Harriet Tubman “never actually freed the slaves ” and cried during the speech, McClatchy News reported.
