Louisiana police chief announces own arrest on Facebook, says it won’t ‘affect’ job

A Louisiana police chief, who has been accused of taking $4,000 in cash that was seized by officers as evidence, announced his own arrest in a Facebook post, the Associated Press reports.

“I won’t debate the validity of the charge,” Grayson Police Chief Mitch Bratton said in a Facebook post Thursday. “I want to be in full disclosure. This does not affect me being the chief of police and I intend to be as accessible as I always have while I let the criminal justice system work this issue out.”

The investigation started after Bratton had contacted an outside agency, Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division (LSP CID), about concerns he had with a town employee. During the course of the investigation, the officials discovered that Bratton had taken close to $4,000 that was never logged as evidence in two different cases, according to state police.

“LSP investigators determined Bratton intentionally concealed the missing currency,” the Louisiana State Police posted to their Facebook page.

According to the post, Bratton was booked into jail on two counts of obstruction of justice and one count of malfeasance.
