Remember the Alamo: Battlefield relics up for auction including cannonballs and bullets

Texas takes its history seriously, especially when it comes to the Texas Revolution and the Battle of the Alamo. And now, you can own a piece of that very history as battlefield relics from the Alamo go up for auction on Saturday.

Burley Auction Gallery in New Braunfels is holding a live auction at 10 a.m., which will include “Alamo battlefield relics such as cannonballs, lance tips, bullets and other items unearthed during the 2008 excavation project just outside the Alamo’s north wall, at which some of the most intense battles took place,” said the auction gallery’s Facebook page.

Along with the battlefield relics from the Alamo, an iconic mission turned fort during Texas’ war for independence in 1835-36, the gallery will also be auctioning off Republic of Texas documents and historic items from Confederate Civil War Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard that include family photographs and portraits, and much more, according to the press release on the Burley Auction website.

“It’s just a great symbol of how history reminds us of our human connections over time,” said auction house owner Robb Burley, according to KSAT.com. “That’s one of the reasons I treat it as an honor to stand before heritage items like Texana and Americana memorabilia – you truly feel a kinship with the original owners and the history behind each item.”

Due to Covid-19 related crowd sized restrictions, seating will be spread out to promote social distancing, according to the website. Live internet bidding will be available through icollector.com.

Alamo memorabilia is not easy to come by; Phil Collins, of “Genius” fame, amassed what is to be believed to be the largest collection of Alamo artifacts in the world — including a leather musket pouch owned by Davy Crockett. Collins’ collection is publicly displayed at the Alamo.
