‘DMV closed’ license plate isn’t legit despite coronavirus shutdown, Oregon cops say
A fake albeit creative license plate with the words “DMV CLOSED” drawn on paper won’t work — despite closures due to coronavirus, Oregon cops say.
A Washington County Sheriff’s Office sergeant pulled over a black Volkswagen on Memorial Day with the do-it-yourself license plate, officials said.
The driver even wrote an expiration date for December 2021.
“While the driver got some points for creativity, please DON’T do this to your car,” the Sheriff’s Office tweeted.
In Oregon, department of transportation buildings are closed to the public to prevent spread of COVID-19, though six Driver & Motor Vehicle Services offices are accepting appointments for commercial driver transactions, according to state officials.
The Sheriff’s Office said drivers can leave expired license plates on their vehicles until the DMV reopens, KATU reported.
Twitter users seemed to appreciate the driver’s effort.
