Look at the damage after deadly storms and tornadoes ravage Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma
At least seven people are dead after tornadoes and storms tore through Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma Wednesday evening.
Two of the deaths occurred in southern Oklahoma, while a tornado killed three people in Polk County, Texas, according to CNN. Two people were also killed in Louisiana, according to the Associated Press.
As the tornado came through Madill, Oklahoma, near the state’s border with Texas, footage was captured of the funnel cloud crossing paths with a rainbow.
Video posted by Pecos Hank shows the Oklahoma tornado creating havoc near shopping centers and residential areas. He wrote the tornado “damaged town structures and lofted trees into the air before transitioning to a rope phase.”
At least 12 homes, businesses and power lines were destroyed in the Oklahoma town, KOKH reported.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said emergency management and other state agencies will provide “immediate support” to affected areas in Polk County.
“The state has already deployed response teams and medical resources to help Texans in need and to provide assistance to these communities,” Abbott stated. “Our hearts are with our fellow Texans tonight and the state will continue to do everything it can to support those affected by this severe weather.”
There are between 20 and 30 injuries in Polk County, according to emergency management officers. Social media pictures and video show extensive damage in Onalaska, Texas, which is around 90 miles north of Houston.
It’s the first deadly tornado in Southeast Texas since April 2016, according to KTRK.
As the storms moved in to Louisiana, a man was swept away in floodwaters in Mansfield, DeSoto Parish Sheriff Jayson Richardson told KTBS. A woman was also killed in Woodworth, the AP reported.
The storms spanned 200 miles over six states Wednesday, according to KHOU.
