Missouri lottery winner ignored jackpot ticket on dash – until he saw a Facebook post

A lucky Missouri man didn’t realize he might’ve won a jackpot prize until he saw a post about it on social media.

Steven Matherly, a resident of Cabool in south central Missouri, saw a Facebook post about a lottery player buying the winning Show Me Cash ticket at a local convenience store, according to a Feb. 24 news release.

Although Matherly doesn’t often play that lottery game, he had just bought a ticket at the location for a Feb. 8 drawing. Matherly went outside to grab the ticket from his vehicle because he’d left it on the dashboard.

“That ticket had been riding around on my dash all weekend,” Matherly said in the news release. “I’m surprised it didn’t blow out.”

When he checked the ticket numbers, Matherly realized he had just won $111,000, officials said.

He’s the fifth jackpot winner of the game this year, according to the Missouri Lottery.
