3-year-old boy missing after mother found murdered in New Mexico, police say
Police in New Mexico are searching for a missing 3-year-old boy after the child’s mother was found dead earlier this week.
The mother — Isela Mauricio-Sanchez, 27 — was reported dead on Tuesday morning, and investigators have gathered evidence to determine the death was a murder, according to the Roswell Police Department.
Now police are looking for her missing child, Osiel Ernesto Rico, as well as the child’s father, 32-year-old Jorge Rico-Ruvira, who is a suspect and may have Osiel with him, authorities said.
Police said the FBI is helping authorities track down the father and child.
Roswell police described Osiel as 2 feet 6 inches tall and about 40 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen Sunday at a home on the same street as the home where his mother was found murdered, according to police.
Police described Osiel as missing and “believed to be in danger if not located.”
His father, Rico-Ruvira, is 5 feet 8 inches tall, 150 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair, police said.
“He is believed to be driving an unknown year maroon GMC Yukon SUV with an unknown license plate number,” police said in the alert. “Many details are still unknown and under investigation. However, of urgent concern is the whereabouts of Osiel Ernesto Rico.”
Family members called police around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday after discovered the mother dead, police said.
“Until the deceased woman was discovered and we responded there, it was then following that investigation, that we learned that she has a 3-year-old son that was missing,” said Todd Wildermuth, a Roswell Police Department spokesman, according to KOAT.
