Thief plows SUV into closed liquor store to get Hennessy on Christmas, Georgia cops say

A thief in Georgia is accused of trying to break into a liquor store on Christmas day by throwing a rock into the glass door, media outlets report.

When that didn’t work, he smashed into the business with a stolen SUV and only took Hennessy, a popular cognac, police say.

The suspect stole the vehicle from a used car dealership in LaGrange, located about 70 miles southwest of Atlanta, on Christmas Day, police say. He also took a handgun, two laptops and about $30 in coins from the dealership, WMAZ reported.

Then the man went to a liquor store, and through a rock at the glass door, the Macon, Georgia TV station reported.

When that didn’t work, he smashed into the store with the SUV he’d just stolen, police say.

A reporter for WSB in Atlanta obtained surveillance video of it.

The thief took three cases of Hennessy worth about $1,400, but didn’t take money from the cash register, WMAZ reported.

He apparently ditched the SUV shortly after the liquor theft, leaving it at a nearby apartment complex, WSB reported.

Police are searching for the suspect.
