12-year-old hit, killed by van while walking near shopping center, Texas cops say

A 12-year-old boy died Monday after he was struck by a van while walking with his mom and little brother near a shopping center, police and Fox 4 News said.

The incident occurred in the Dallas suburb of Carrollton after the boy, his 7-year-old brother and mother were leaving a grocery store, media reports say.

As they approached a driveway in front of a shopping center, a van swerved to avoid another vehicle and hit the two boys, CBSDFW said.

The 12-year-old boy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he died. His little brother was being treated at a local hospital and is expected to be OK, authorities said.

In a tweet, Carrollton police offered their condolences.
