Empty bag of Ruffles chips unravels shooting murder, Dallas police say

Dallas Police arrested 19-year-old Dorian Markal Killebrew on Tuesday on accusations that he shot and killed Christopher Franklin in April, police said in the arrest affidavit.

One witness told police an argument ensued inside an apartment located at 722. N Marsalis Ave. , in the Oak Cliff neighborhood. After the argument, the witness said Killebrew grabbed a gun and shot Franklin multiple times, the arrest affidavit said.

When police arrived, the witness showed officers where the shots were fired and they soon found Franklin’s body. Before the shooting, Killebrew, known on the streets as “Pyrex,” went to a convenience store for a snack, police said.

Police went to the Colorado Stop Store at 837 N. Lancaster Road where they retrieved the surveillance video that showed Killebrew buying Ruffles potato chips. The bag was later found at the apartment where Franklin was shot and killed.

After being collected for evidence, police lifted a fingerprint from the bag. Forensics showed the print belonged to Killebrew. Police also found Killebrew’s fingerprints in other areas inside of the apartment, the affidavit said.

A second witness came forward during the course of the investigation and picked Killebrew out of a lineup, along with their initial witness, the affidavit noted.

“During the interview, Suspect Killebrew admitted his role in the murder. He was placed in jail for murder. His bond was set at $250,000,” police said.
