Is everything bigger in Texas? Or is this Christmas tree a tall tale?

Texans are a proud bunch - “everything is bigger in Texas,” folks say.

Often the claims are made about ranches or honky tonks, such as Fort Worth’s Billy Bob’s Texas, but now comes a Christmas tree.

Inside the Galleria Dallas mall stands a Christmas tree that measures 95-feet tall. At least one TV station, ABC 13, reports it’s the “tallest in the nation.” The high-end mall’s website boasts that the tree is the “world’s tallest indoor Christmas tree.”

The tree weighs five tons and is adorned with a whopping 500,000 LED lights that are choreographed to holiday music. An ice rink busy with skaters provides a unique skirt for the tree.

But really, is the Texas tree the tallest indoor tree in the U.S.?

That’s debatable.

While the Dallas tree is a monster, it can’t hold an ornament to some of the big boys we found -- outside, not indoors -- from Idaho to Brazil.

247wallst.com has a list detailing the tallest Christmas tree in each state, from 2018, and the tallest was at The Couer d’Alene Resort in Idaho, a 162-footer.

The largest Christmas tree in the world resides in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Trip Savvy reports. Standing at 278 feet, the tree floats “in the city’s lagoon, which sits just inland from famous Ipanema Beach,” according to Trip Savvy. We don’t know if it’s real or artificial.

The famous tree at Rockefeller Center in New York? It’s a mere 77-feet tall and was turned on Wednesday night as thousands gathered outdoors to watch.
