Donald J. Trump: Queen Elizabeth II “left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity.”
Former President Donald J. Trump paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II Thursday, saying in a statement, “Queen Elizabeth’s historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain.”
The the United Kingdom’s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at age 96, after a 70-year reign.
“Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries around the world,” Trump said in a statement.
Queen Elizabeth hosted the former president and first lady Melania Trump in 2019, saying at the time her Majesty has never had so much fun as she did during his visit.
Trump, who seemed to enjoy playing tourist during his visit to the UK, told Fox News’ “Fox and Friends”: “I have such a great relationship, and we were laughing and having fun. And her people said she hasn’t had so much fun in 25 years. Then I got criticized for it because they said we were having too much fun,” according to a report from CNN.com.
Trump visited the UK twice:
- June 3-7, 2019, London and Portsmouth: A State visit where he Met with Queen Elizabeth II, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey and met with Prime Minister Theresa May. He also attended the 75th anniversary of D-Day commemorative ceremonies. He also visited Ireland and met with Tánaiste Leo Varadkar – spending two nights at his international golf resort in Doonbeg.
- December 2–4, 2019, Watford and London: Attended the NATO Summit Meeting.
