Funeral arrangements have been made for 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, who died last week when he was stabbed by another student at a North Texas high school track meet.

A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Hope Fellowship Frisco East, at 9950 Rolater Road in Frisco.

The Metcalf family will have a private burial after the memorial service, according to the obituary.

Austin Metcalf was a junior at Frisco Memorial High School. The 17-year-old had a 4.0 GPA and had been voted MVP on the Memorial High football team, his family said. He planned to attend college and play football, the teen’s father, Jeff Metcalf, told the Star-Telegram.

“He was a beloved brother to his identical twin and best friend Hunter Metcalf, whose unwavering love and support will forever echo in the cherished memories they hold dear,” the obituary says.

The obituary described Austin Metcalf as “one of the most kindhearted and genuine people, when you met him, you knew he was someone you could count on in your life.”

From a young age, Austin enjoyed playing any sports, but as he got older he loved playing football and never gave up on his dream of playing in college, the obituary reads.

Austin was also fond of the Texas outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his father and twin brother, according to the obituary.

Frisco police have said that Metcalf was killed by Karmelo Anthony during a fight at a Frisco ISD track meet on Wednesday, April 2. Austin died despite lifesaving measures including CPR and the administration of blood, police said.

Jeff Metcalf said his son was stabbed in the heart and died in his twin brother’s arms.
