In the blink of an eye life can suddenly become challenging.

Such is the case with Adriana, her husband and their little son. Difficult times were brought on when her husband injured his spine, preventing him from being able to work.

”This, combined with the pandemic, has reduced our economy,” she said. “At the moment I am the only economic support.”

While she works to solve the economic needs of her family and take care of their well-being and balance, there is the matter of Christmas. She wants her son to have a good one.

So does the Goodfellows Fund. The Star-Telegram charity set a goal of helping 12,000 children in need in Tarrant County have a joyful holiday by once again providing a $50 tax-free gift certificate for each child for new trendy clothing from Old Navy Stores.

”It would be a great help to be able to count on this wonderful support for our little son, since like all mothers or fathers, we always seek to cover the basic needs of our children,” Adriana said. “Thank you very much in advance and blessings.”

About the Goodfellows Fund

The story on the Goodfellows website describes its beginning as an offshoot of the first newspaper charity drive in the United States, started by the Chicago Tribune on Dec. 10, 1909. A Chicago city attorney wrote a letter challenging his friends to donate the money they would have spent on holiday partying to charity.

A couple years later, the Advertising Club of Fort Worth staged the first local Goodfellows campaign. On the day after Thanksgiving in 1912, Publisher Amon G. Carter brought the tradition to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
