Not even being able to buy a toothbrush pretty much says it all when describing a hardship.

That’s Amanda and her family.

“Just two weeks ago my kids had to brush their teeth with their fingers because I couldn’t afford a toothbrush for them,” she said.

Amanda is a single mother with two daughters, ages 4 and 6. She wants to be independent and provide for them, but sometimes help is needed — and this is that time for her.

The Goodfellows Fund wants to help. The Star-Telegram charity has been helping families like hers during the holidays for more than a century.

This year the fund is providing funding for clothing and shoes for children. They are donating $50 gift cards to qualified families.

“It is so hard for me to ask for help. I feel like the whole world just caved in on me and my kids,” she said, adding that she has gone from having a job to asking a church for food.

“It’s been so hard this year,” she continued. “I know I will see the light soon. I know it in my heart.”
