Woman raising 3 grandchildren turns to Goodfellows for help with Christmas
Grandparents, it is said, are supposed to spoil their grandchildren, then send them home to mom and dad.
But in the case of Cindy, home for her three grandchildren is also her home. And while she would love to spoil them like other grandparents, it is all she can do to keep them fed and sheltered.
Their mother is incarcerated. Their father stops by every couple months. Cindy works full-time as an appointment contract scheduler, but the income often doesn’t match the expenses, she said.
“The income just isn’t enough with the rising cost of food and utilities. I am not able to provide much for them but they love whatever they get,” she said.
The Goodfellow Fund can help. The Star-Telegram charity has been assisting families like hers during the holidays for more than a century. This year it is giving out $50 gift cards so folks like Cindy can get shoes and clothing for her grandchildren.
“I am not asking for much, just for some help with Christmas for the kids,” she said. ”I have been raising them for a number of years and am extremely grateful for any help we receive.”
Be a Goodfellow
Since 1912, the Star-Telegram’s Goodfellow Fund has provided help and assistance for Tarrant County schoolchildren. This season they have returned to donating $50 gift cards for shoes and clothing, with the plan to assist 12,000 Chidlren. Join this tradition by sending a contribution to Goodfellows, Box 1870, Fort Worth, TX 76101, or visit goodfellowfundfw.com to make a secure credit card donation.
