A knife-wielding panhandler barricaded himself in the bathroom of a Shell gas station in south Fort Worth for more than two hours Sunday, said Officer Daniel Segura, police spokesman.

About 30 police units responded to a call about the incident, which began at 4:34 p.m. at the Shell station at McCart Avenue and Southwest Loop 820, according to a police report.

Fadil Galesic, 39, eventually surrendered at about 7 p.m. “without further incident,” Segura said. He is accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A 911 caller told police that a man with a knife shoved his wife down and spit on her face, according to the report.

Segura confirmed that Galesic had a small knife and that he pushed someone as he was panhandling near the gas station. Galesic then went to the gas station’s bathroom and hid in the ceiling as officers negotiated his surrender.

“He was not threatening anyone, just not willing to come down,” Segura said.

No one was taken to the hospital after the incident.

Staff writer Rafael Sears contributed to this report.
