Rosary for Dallas officer Zamarripa draws friends, fellow officers
Police from Connecticut, Canada, Chicago and places beyond filed past the casket of Dallas police Officer Patrick Zamarripa on Friday during a rosary at Wilkerson Greines Athletic Center.
Chicago officer Michael Ostrowski said he came “because it shows that we are all in this together. It also shows the community that the police are here for them.”
“There is a force that’s trying to divide us,” said Ostrowski, a member of the police honor guard. “But if we all band together, we can beat the ugliness. When you look up in the sky, there are no boundaries, and that’s how God sees us.”
Speakers at the service included the Rev. Stephen Jasso of All Saints Catholic Church on Fort Worth’s north side and Navy Capt. Mark Hoffman who announced that Zamarripa had received a posthumous promotion.
The Latin Express band played, and a slide show flipped through moments in his life.
Zamarripa’s family and friends mingled with the strangers.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the activity center. Burial will follow at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
