Police are investigating the fatal shooting early Friday of a 22-year-old man outside a Fort Worth motel.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s website identified the victim as David Duran and ruled the death a homicide. It said Duran was shot once in the torso.

Homicide Sgt. Joe Loughman said the victim was on the passenger’s side of a pickup that was backed into a parking space shortly before 4 a.m. at the Studio 6 motel at 4850 North Freeway.

A car pulled in front of the pickup and a man got out, shot the man, then got back into his car and fled, Loughman said.

The victim died shortly after being taken to a hospital. Loughman said the man had been staying at the motel.

The driver of the pickup was not injured, Loughman said.

Police continued to investigate Saturday.
