The return of Twin Points brings back a popular swimming hole

If you’re thinking about hitting the beach for the Memorial Day weekend, there’s a new option close to home.

It’s a rebuilt version of a popular swimming hole that’s been gone for nearly a decade.

Twin Points Park, near the Eagle Mountain Lake dam, will be formally dedicated on Saturday morning. Food trucks will be there, and fireworks are scheduled for 8:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The park has a sandy beach, picnic tables and other amenities.

The park is public, but it is not free.

“People can feel free to swim; they can have a picnic in one of our pavilions,” said Matt Oliver, a spokesman for the Tarrant Regional Water District. “You will have a place to bring your whole family.”

The return of Twin Points has taken longer than expected.

Droughts, floods and a cleanup of buildings and debris all played a role in the delay, Oliver said.

The origin of the rebuilt state park was when the water district learned that it was violating state regulations by having cabins and trailers for rent in an area that was designed to work as an emergency spillway in the event Eagle Mountain surged to an unusually high level.

The park was leased to a private operator and was known as Twin Points Resort, and in the late 1990s, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality told the district that the trailers and buildings had to go.

In 2007, the district didn’t renew the Twin Points leases.

A new boat ramp opened at Twin Points on Memorial Day 2013, and now comes the park.

“I think it’s great,” said Dick Fish of Eagle Mountain Lake. “When they didn’t renew those releases back in 2007, I told them there was no place where the public had access to the lake. We’ve got private homes, private marinas but no place for the public. This takes care of that.”
