Showers and storms in Tarrant County forecast all week
Rain gear could come in handy this week, with chances for showers and thunderstorms 20 percent or higher five or more days.
Any storm could turn severe, given the unstable atmosphere, National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Stalley said Sunday.
The best chances for rain are Thursday and Friday, he said.
“We’re just going to be pretty warm and kind of muggy all week,” Stalley said. “Warm and humid air can help fuel thunderstorms, so very favorable conditions for thunderstorms.”
Monday’s temperatures should reach the lower 80s, with skies starting off mostly cloudy and then becoming partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, the NWS website said. The chance for precipitation disappears Monday night, but skies will remain mostly cloudy.
There is no chance for rain in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, but residents should check the weather often to keep up with changes, Stalley said.
Tuesday will be partly sunny, with temperatures reaching the mid-80s, according to the NWS website, with temperatures dropping to the lower 70s Tuesday night.
Wednesday will also be partly sunny, with highs reaching the upper 80s before clouds move in during the evening and overnight, according to the NWS website.
The Dean & Deluca Invitational golf tournament starts Thursday, and players and spectators may want to take an umbrella. The chance for showers and thunderstorms is expected to reach 40 percent Thursday, with highs in the mid-80s and cloudy skies. The chance for rain will stay at 40 percent overnight Thursday, with lows dipping to the lower 70s.
“There certainly could be thunderstorms around both Thursday and Friday that could certainly cause brief delays,” Stalley said, adding that lightning is a possibility.
The chance for showers and thunderstorms will go up to 50 percent Friday, with cloudy skies and highs in the mid-80s. The chance for precipitation will drop to 20 percent overnight Friday, then remain at 20 percent through Saturday.
Saturday will be partly sunny in the morning, with cloud cover returning and skies becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 80s.
“In these kind of patterns a lot can change very quickly,” Stalley said. “What happens the following day depends on what happened the previous day.”
