Man found dead in east Fort Worth lake was missing from Hurst

Police confirmed that a 31-year-old man found dead in his pickup at the bottom of a lake Tuesday has been missing from Hurst since late last year.

Fort Worth Fire Department divers pulled the body of Jose Anguiano-Perez out of Mosier Lake at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday after teenagers spotted his truck in the water, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office and police reports.

Perez was in his pickup submerged under the East Loop 820 bridge near Trinity Boulevard.

It was not clear Wednesday how long he had been in the water.

Officer Daniel Segura, a police spokesman, said the boys spotted Perez when they tried to retrieve a tire from under the bridge at around 5:30 p.m.

He said that if it turns out that Perez’s black pickup is missing a tire, that could point to an accident that sent the pickup off the freeway and into the water.

A Hurst detective showed up at the scene on a hunch Tuesday, after he heard about the dark-colored pickup in the lake, said Hurst police Sgt. Craig Teague.

Teague said Perez was reported missing Jan. 1, two days after he was last seen entering his Hurst apartment.

Perez’s apartment is less than 4 miles from where his body was found.

A co-worker reported him missing when he didn’t show up for work, which was out of character for Perez, Teague said. His disappearance was not suspicious, he said.

“It is not one of those deals where there was a struggle,” Teague said.

A ruling on the cause of Perez’s death was pending.
